The key takeaway is this:

To ensure uninterrupted coverage and protection for dive professionals in OUC Training Clubs:

  • Do not allow a lapse in your OUC Training Club Membership or in the OUC memberships of your dive professionals in Training Clubs.
  • Renew club memberships, club executives, and dive professionals (instructors and divemasters) in December to ensure all members are fully covered for the upcoming year. Renewing before Dec. 31 protects members against future claims related to past incidents.

Legal Liability Timeframe:

  • Member clubs and dive professional members are required to maintain their Training Club status and OUC membership for a minimum of two (2) years after conducting training with any adult member.
  • Additionally, member clubs and dive professional members must maintain their Training Club status and OUC membership until at least two (2) years after the youngest minor member reaches the age of majority.

Attention Non-Training Clubs:

  • Non-Training Clubs do NOT have Errors & Omissions (E&O) liability insurance through OUC. Non-Training Clubs pay a lower fee of $150/yr and are not included in E&O coverage. If your Non-Training Club uses Divemasters for their OUC sanctioned dives, those Divemasters do not have E&O insurance through OUC. Divemasters should seek their own E&O insurance elsewhere.
