Scuba training is your passport to the last and greatest frontier on earth. Three-quarters of the surface of our planet is water. Beneath the waves, very little has been explored. Welcome to this, the divers universe.
It is impossible to describe the thrill of swooping weightlessly from pinnacle to peak over an alien landscape. And make no mistake about it; this is an alien world, from its unusual and unexpected vistas to the myriad of exotic beasts that you will encounter on your underwater adventures. Careful training is vital to ensure you are both comfortable and safe as you explore, study, photograph and play.
Not too long ago, SCUBA diving was limited to the relatively young and very fit. Advances in SCUBA equipment and training have opened up the underwater world to anybody in normal physical condition with ordinary swimming ability, just as long as they have proper instruction. Todays certified diver needs to be trained in the classroom, the pool, and in open water. That's where we come in, STEEL CITY SPORT DIVERS, INC

Underwater Hockey started in Great Britain in the 1950's. Since then it has spread around the world. Each player has a mask, snorkel, fins, stick and glove. The stick is about 11 inches long and is played along the bottom. The puck has a metal weight inside so that it will settle to the bottom of the pool quickly. There are six players on each side and a goal trough at either end of the pool for scoring goals. Passes are made with a flicking motion so that the puck will rise off the bottom of the pool, and can travel 3 to 6 feet. This combined with no body contact makes the action pretty fast.
York Sub-Aqua started in the Toronto area in the 1970's. Over the years it slowly migrated down the QEW to Hamilton. Currently we play every Tuesday evening in Hamilton at Norman "Pinky" Lewis pool from 8:15 to 9:45 pm (7:15 to 8:45 pm in the summer). Both men and women play, and ages can range from teenagers to one player in his 70's. All are welcome. If you would like to try it, you can just show up, but it would be better to call ahead to make sure we can find some equipment for you.
