In the 2000s

In the 2000's

For the past 46 years, the Ontario Underwater Council has worked to provide Ontario divers and dive clubs with the highest quality of services.

Now we are adapting policies to ensure the safety of families as this new trend has emerged. Once again safety and standards are both our goal and concern.

Although the Council no longer receives monetary support from the government, it is still recognized as the provincial sport organization for scuba diving in Ontario and is still housed in the Ontario Sport & Recreation Centre.

Recent activities include:

  • Leading the successful defeat of Bill 13 that would have virtually banned most wreck diving in Ontario.
  • Helping to persuade the Toronto General Hospital not to close it's Hyperbaric Chamber for 15 months.
  • Meeting with the Ontario Ministry of Culture on revisions to the Heritage Act.
  • Membership on the Advisory Committee for Fathom Five Marine Park.
  • Consultation with the coroners office when scuba diving issues are raised.

The Council continues to support and promote the sport of scuba diving in Ontario.
